Elementary Section

Nursery 1


Students in Nursery 1 follow a syllabus that includes six areas of learning covering physical development, language development, mathematical development, creative development, social development and emotional development.
  • Language Development

    Identification and recognition of letters, association of letters with phonic sounds, co-relation of letters with different objects and development of language and vocabulary

  • Pattern Writing
Development
    of hand-to-eye co-ordination which later helps in letter formation. Emphasis is also placed on enhancing concentration and building pre-writing skills.

  • Mathematics
    
Identification and recognition of numbers, perception of pre-math concepts like shapes, sizes, similarities and differences using hands-on activities like sorting / matching / comparing and understanding of numbers with their values from 1 to 5.

  • General Knowledge & Conversation
    Development of language and vocabulary is built upon exposure to different general knowledge topics which in turn creates awareness of immediate surroundings. Activities like dramatics and class discussions instill confidence.

  • Creative & Emotional
    Development
Through music, song, role play and imaginative play, creative ability is developed further. Performances at class assemblies / class days / concerts are enhanced which builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Activities like sand water play, indoor – outdoor toys and art & craft assist in the development of fine finger movement and gross motor skills. Educational toys, organised games, sports and basic activities are imparted through play and ensure that the child transitions to Nursery 2 seamlessly.

Nursery 2


Students in Nursery 2 build upon concepts learnt in the previous class and learn a few new concepts as well. Every activity is child-friendly and conducted in a play-way method for better learning and understanding of concepts. Subjects include language development, mathematical concepts, general knowledge, art & craft, singing and value-education.
  • Language Development
Achievement of writing readiness, recognition and co-rdination of letters with their phonic sounds and recognition and writing of small letters, enhancement of writing skills and correlation of the capital set and small set of letters. Dictation is held to assess knowledge and formation of letters. Application of reading skills is also monitored.

  • Number Work
Development of perception and sorting skills and recognition of numbers and their value. Concepts of sets, missing numbers, matching and comparison of values, recognition of numbers and acquiring correct formation of numbers are developed.

  • Knowledge Development
General knowledge through oral discussion and dramatization helps enhance knowledge in different fields. Through value-education, we instill values which last a lifetime.

Fine finger movement and gross motor skills are worked upon through activities like sand water play, educational toys and various skill-enhancing art & craft. Activities held in this section are directed towards developing the student’s personality through singing, dramatics, rhythm, public speaking, sports and organised games. Basics in academics like reading, writing and arithmetic are imparted in a play-way method to get the student ready for Kindergarten.

Kidergarten


  • Language Development

    Emphasis on a thorough base in letter formation. Reading and writing skills are strengthened with the help of dictation, crossword exercises, matching rhyming words, filling missing letters and using phonic skills. Dictation is conducted to assess sense of assimilation.

  • Mathematics
    
Recognition and correct formation of numbers through practical exercises. The concept of value, sequence of missing numbers, comparison of values, learning number spellings, order of numbers, addition and subtraction are also taught.

  • Knowledge development
    Sense of observation, understanding and implementing of skills are updated through general knowledge, value-education, story-telling, singing and recitation.
Overall development of personality is achieved through activities like organised indoor/outdoor games, singing, dancing, dramatics, art & craft, public speaking and assemblies. Formal learning includes reading through phonetics, cursive writing and understanding various number concepts till 50 in a play-way method using educational equipment. Social skills are inculcated throughout the year to ensure that the student is ready for the Junior section.

General Knowledge


Aims & Objectives

  • To develop an inquiring mind.
  • To gain knowledge about various essential topics.

Environmental Education


  • Std. 1
    
Topics begin with ‘Myself’ – creating an awareness about oneself, parents, family, neighbours, and finally ending with the environment. Students complete a lot of worksheets related to these topics.

  • Std. 2
    
Topics from Std. 1 are graded and continued at a slightly higher level. Students draw pictures on various topics and teachers help them understand and read new words by naming things on their pictures.

  • Std. 3
    
Topics are linked to nature and the environment and we aim to create awareness. For example, ‘The Beach’ was selected as a theme and children had to collect information on pollution and protection of beaches, marine life, erosion, etc. Children were also taken for a walk on the beach and then given a worksheet to fortify information.

  • Std. 4
    
Teachers plan topics and worksheets are created accordingly. Students work on these topics, sometimes in the form of projects, which are guided by teachers. These topics kindle creativity and help instill values.

Hindi

Mathematics

  • To help acquire and consolidate fundamental number concepts and skills which are essential for number work.
  • To develop numerical ability to solve day to day problems.
  • To enable participation in the learning process.
  • To make the learning process interesting, easy and stimulating through hands-on activities.
  • To develop skills of observation through co-operative and individual learning.

Physical Education

  • To improve discipline, swiftness, energy, strength, good muscle control over the nervous system, muscle coordination and to
    increase functioning of the body.

Science


Aims & Objectives

  • To create awareness of our natural surroundings and what happens in factual form.

Singing


  • Students from Stds. 1 to 4 have two singing periods every week during which they learn new songs which encourages their musical sense and also rejuvenates them, being a welcome change from routine tasks. Students also learn to express themselves in a more musical way.

Social Studies

  • To make the study of Geography a lively and meaningful experience.
  • To stimulate interest in the rich cultural and social heritage of our country.

Secondary Section

(Miramar & Kadamba)

The Secondary section is divided into the Middle section (Stds. 5 to 7) and Senior section (Stds. 8 to 10). Subjects taught in Std. 5 are English, Hindi (second language), Marathi / Konkani / Portuguese (third language), Social Studies, Science, Maths, Computers, SUPW, GK, Yoga and Physical Education.

Subjects taught in Std. 6 are English, Hindi (second language), Marathi / Konkani / Portuguese (third language), History, Geography, Science, Maths, Computers, SUPW, GK, Yoga, and Physical Education.

Subjects taught in Std. 7 are English, Hindi (second language), Marathi / Konkani / Portuguese (third language), History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Computers, SUPW, Yoga and Physical Education.

We offer French as a second language, in place of Hindi, to students who have a foreign passport.

Subjects taught in the Senior section are English, History, Geography, Hindi / French / Portuguese (second language), Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, SUPW, Yoga and PE.

Students who need assistance with certain subjects or who have missed classes are offered remedial classes once a week in the afternoon from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.


Higher secondary Section

(Miramar)

The Higher Secondary School section is divided into Stds. 11 and 12 across the Humanities, Commerce and Science streams.

All students are given grades for SUPW, Physical Education and, only in Std. 11, for Listening Skills and Speaking Skills. Yoga and Value Education are also taught. By the month of July, students must decide and finalise optional subject choices for the ISC Board Examinations.

Students who need assistance with certain subjects or who have missed classes are offered remedial classes in the afternoons from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

In Physical Education, the Higher Secondary PE teachers coach the students in cricket, football, basketball, futsal, badminton, table tennis, handball and athletics. It is a point of pride that no one is excluded from PE and everyone is given individual attention.
Extra-curricular activities conducted are Gifts of Awesome Club, Gavel Club, Kalasangam, Innovation Fest, Inceptra and the biennial school festival ‘Ekta’
.
Higher Secondary students also participate in many inter-HSS festivals and competitive events which provide them unique opportunities, learning experiences and gives them exposure to wider platforms which are often representative of the world which awaits them.
